Solidify the foundational isolations necessary for strong belly dance technique!
Taking your dance back to the basics with regularity is key to honing your technique at all levels.
The majority of our belly dance vocabulary is made up of just a handful of isolations that when paired together create the rich tapestry of the dance. Master these basic isolations, and you are well on your way to mastering all of the movements more effectively.
Dedication to the basics will keep all of your dancing more finely tuned than if you were to pass up the basics in favor of more complex movement ideas all of the time. It will also help you learn new movement more efficiently and will help your body retrieve both simple and complex movements more effortlessly.
While we are easily tempted to focus on the latest and greatest movements on the scene, reveling and savoring the basic elements of belly dance will give your dancing a sophisticated and timeless energy that you and your audience will love.
This course will take you through 8 foundational isolations that are the basics building blocks of many of our dance movements. This is a perfect place to begin your dance and the place you want to return to time and again to continue to hone your movements.
Here you will find a detailed breakdown of the isolations you need for the drill, an in-depth explanation of the drill itself and two versions of the drill for you to dance along to: A four-minute mid-tempo version and a longer, faster 14 minute drill that will help you work up a sweat a conquer the isolations at a faster tempo.

Well hello there, fabulous dancer! I'm Sahira. 👋🏽
I'm a life-long performer and have dedicated the last 21 years of my life to empowering others through the beautiful art of Belly Dance. I am a lifelong musician and head over heels crazy about the finger cymbals. I am a self-proclaimed technique and music geek, love anything to do with bunnies and could live off of spicy Szechwan food for the rest of my life.
I also direct the BellaDonna Dance Company, voted Houston ’s Best Belly Dancers by the Houston Press and am founder and director of Houston’s premiere Tribal Style troupe, Urban Hipsy.
I love belly dancing! Seriously… I did not ever set out to be a professional belly dancer, but since dedicating the last 21 years of my life to it, I cannot imagine doing anything else. I was an engineer by training before starting my first belly dance class – which just goes to show that anyone can learn this beautiful dance!
What I love best about teaching – and I’ve had the opportunity to work with students all over the world – is watching a student grow into their dance – from that first “ah-ha” moment, to seeing them dance with a confidence that they never thought they had. This dance is so wonderfully empowering and can be enjoyed by every body.
I look forward to sharing the dance floor with you soon!
